The Tamil Nadu Eligibility Entrance Test (TNTET) results were announced on Saturday and surprisingly, only 5% of the candidates were able to clear the examination, reported The New Indian Express.

In total, 7.53 lakh candidates had written the examination and only 34,979 managed to clear it. The results stated that 4.83 lakh graduates failed to secure the minimum marks which was 90 out of 150.

Maximum number of candidates failed to clear Mathematics and Science as the success rate from these streams was only 2.72%.

According to a notification by the Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board, 2,41,555 candidates appeared for the TN TET 2017 Paper I and 5,12,260 candidates appeared for the Paper-II examination. 

The examination was conducted by State Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) to recruit teachers for elementary-level sections (Class 1-5) and middle-level sections (Class 6-8).

The tentative answers to both papers were published on 22 May on the TNTRB website. 

The Board invited representations and objections from candidates within five days.

However, there has been a marginal improvement in the performance of candidates by 0.09%, reported TNIE. 
Educationists blamed the teacher training institutes for the poor performance of the candidates.

Results of the 2012 exam had also created a row as only 0.34% had managed to clear the examination.
