A nine-year-old school going boy drowned to death after accidentally falling into a temple tank in Erode, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred when the victim Sidesh of Veerappanchatram in Erode district had on Monday evening gone to play with his friends, near Veerappanchatram temple water tank, after school, police said.

Police said the boy accidentally fell into the tank and drowned in the ten feet of water.

Immediately, students raised an alarm and people in the vicinity rushed to the spot and retrieved Sidhesh's body.

Though he was rushed to Erode Government hospital, the doctors pronounced him brought dead.

A case of accidental death has been registered and investigation is on.
