400 dogs poisoned with cyanide and buried, alleges Blue Cross

The News Minute| September 19, 2014| 11.20 am ISTNearly 400 dogs have been killed and buried and different locations by town panchayat workers along the seashore near Marakkam in Villipuram according to animal welfare activists.Carcasses of 18 dogs have been taken out by activists that were allegedly poisoned and then buried near the seashore, according to the New Indian Express. A social activist, Saeed Hameed said in the report that the town panchayat workers had caught stray dogs and taken them away using vaccination as an excuse. However, it was later learnt the dogs had been injected with cyanide and buried along the seashore in Theerthavari near Konavayankuppam fishing village.If the carcasses start decomposing opening, people living nearby will be affected, said the Blue Cross in the report. Town panchayat officials however have denied the allegations made against them.
