12 year-old Vellore girl sets herself ablaze; succumbs to injuries

The News Minute| September 2, 2014| 8.00 am ISTA 12 year-old school girl allegedly immolated herself and committed suicide at a school in Vellore on Monday.Harini, a class six student of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Pernambut reached her school at 8.45 a.m and went to the bathroom with a kerosene bottle and a matchbox before the school assembly started at 9 a.m. said the police according to The Hindu. She allegedly doused herself in a bottle of kerosene and set herself ablaze. Hearing her screams, students alerted the teachers, said the report. Harini’s 23 year-old cousin committed suicide last week in a similar manner, said the police in the report. Her father had also recently remarried after the death of her mother a few years ago. Cause for the suicide will be determined only after investigation, said the police in the news report.
