Watch: When it comes to sexism, this 'Urvashi' remix refuses to 'take it easy'

If you’re a 90’s kid, chances are you find yourself humming the song (or hearing it in your head, at least) as soon as someone utters the word Urvashi.

While the song is known for AR Rahman’s magic and it’s “take it easy policy”, some youngsters took it upon themselves to rework the song to reflect the realities of the Indian woman.

With lyrics like “This society, patriarchy…We don’t want it, Urvashi”, the song stars three young women and a powerful message: call out the society’s hypocrisy and not to take it lying down.

Uploaded by Breakthrough India on Thursday, the video tells women to not take it easy and “break the glass ceiling” instead.

The message of the video is simple and is elaborated in the description: “Girl, you're awesome. There will be those who will want to keep you subdued. But remember, that it's all bullshit.”
