Watch: This sassy female anchor slams press coverage of Olympic sportswomen and rightly so

Written by : TNM Staff

Women like Dipa Karmakar, PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik made India proud at the Rio Olympics. World over, women like Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky are stealing the show. Ironically however, their feats still seem to fall short of impressing news commentators and reporters who continue to judge them on flimsier grounds.

This Vox video talks about a persisting problem – reducing people to their biological sex and the consequent sexism.

Despite a number of women putting up stellar performances, here is what they continue to be reduced to – their looks, their husbands and their outfits.

Titled ‘Wide World of Sexism’, the video is anchored by Elizabeth Plank who cheekily says that she judges “Olympic sexist coverage as a sport”. She points out instance after instance when commentators and news coverage expose their bias towards women when compared to male athletes.
