Video: This is what your body would look like if it could withstand a car crash

With an increased number of vehicles on the road, the incidents of rash, drunken and negligent driving have also risen. The Transport Accident Commission of Australia, as a part of their road safety campaign, introduced Graham – a custom made prototype of what a person would look like if his/her body could survive a car accident.

Modeled by road safety engineer Dr David Logan, trauma surgeon Christian Kenfield and sculptor Paticia Paccinini, Graham has several nipples, a large head, a flat face, thicker skin, 360 degree mobile knee joints and hoof-like legs.

“In the modern world, we are subjecting our bodies to much higher speeds and the body just doesn’t have the physiology to absorb the energy when things go wrong,” says Dr Logan. Each of Graham’s seemingly absurd body parts are therefore designed to help him to survive and mitigate damage to his body in case of a car crash.

This interactive feature on Project Graham’s website will tell you the rationale behind each aspect of Graham’s meticulously designed body.

However, the point Graham’s makers are trying to make is that the human body is quite vulnerable. However, there is a need to design a system of protection against car crashes by exploring the possibilities through Graham.
