Video - Understanding Veshti: Color, texture and most importantly, how it's different from the Lungi

Written by : TNM Staff

“Wearing a ‘Veshti’ is an experience and the mere word ‘Veshti’ is synonymous with elegance and tradition,” begins the stand-up comedian Aswin Rao, in this video by Put Chutney which talks about different ‘Veshtis’ and what it means to wear a ‘Veshti’ in South India.

Did you know there are different sizes also? 4 muzham and 8 muzham (1 muzham = 1.5 feet).

The best part about the ‘Veshti’ is also that it accommodates growing waist sizes.

The video also highlights how bordering material defines social economic status and profession of a person.

“The blemishless white color and the wonderful texture leaves us with nostalgia,” says Aswin Rao. And most important, not to confuse it with a ‘lungi’.
