Video: Female-to-male sex reassignment surgery explained

Written by : TNM Staff

Each year in the US, an estimated 100-500 people undergo sex reassignment surgeries. While there are no pan-India numbers for the same, a report in The Quint states that "plastic surgeons in Delhi and Mumbai say, they are doing 20-25 (such surgeries) each year".

While the cost of male-to-female surgery in India is around Rs 2 to 5 lakh, it can go up to Rs 4-8 lakhs in the case of female-to-male surgery.

Male-to-female sex reassignment surgeries are also "easier, less expensive and generally more successful than female to male surgery", states a report in The Washington Post

The complete transformation is not limited to genital reassignment and includes several other procedures as well, including hormone therapy and cosmetology.

Reports suggest that in several cases, individuals regret having undergone the surgery later in life.
