Video: This Chilean actress is making it possible for the deaf to enjoy music

“Music is very hard to explain for someone who cannot hear. They can feel the vibration, but what we want is to be able to share the content of what is said.”

This is precisely what Chilean actress Maria Siebald set out to achieve with her music videos and musicals that have been designed keeping the deaf in mind.

She achieves this by using sign language in her performances so that the deaf can actually understand what the artist is singing.

Watch this Al Jazeera video to find out how she does it:

After her video cover of the hit song ‘Comfortably Numb’, there was no turning back for Maria.

She says that this comes from the inner child in her and that she loves to play with language. But when she studied sign language, she realized how far removed from music the deaf were.

“We don’t make projects for everyone. We make projects for deaf people. With the love and care that we put into each one of them, it is clear that’s our obsession,” says Maria.
