Written by : TNM Staff

A Bengaluru techie was assaulted by a traffic violator after he videotaped the violation on his mobile phone on Monday.

The incident took place at around 10:30am near Wipro Park in Koramangala, where Ankit Chowdhary saw a man riding his bike on the footpath.

According to Chowdhary’s post on Facebook, he photographed the incident and moved on. However, the man parked his bike, caught Chowdhary and tried to grab his phone.

“…as soon as I took the photo, he stopped his bike and rushed to hit me. He tried to smash my phone thinking that video photos will get destroyed. I think the mic (sic) stopped working somewhere there,” Chowdhary wrote.

The techie has also videotaped the man assaulting him.

In the video, the man is seen grabbing Chowdhary by his collar and slapping him repeatedly. It also looks like he tried to hit him with his helmet.

On Monday evening, Chowdhary lodged a complaint at the Koramangala and Adugodi traffic police stations.

“We have received a complaint of assault based on which a non-cognizable offence report has been generated. We will approach a court for further instructions to take the case forward,” said a police officer.

After filing the complaint, Chowdhary wrote, “Seems like traffic violations will be booked for riding/parking on footpath. Bengaluru City Police says this is a non-cognizable offence so they have to take permit from court hence will let me know in 2 days. They wouldn't file FIR for that reason.”
