Shabana Azmi mistook poha for upma, and the internet had the best comebacks

A significant part of a vacationing at a new place is trying out the local food. But the most exotic delicacies can sometimes leave one craving some home food once in a while.

Something similar seems to have happened with actor Shabana Azmi, who is currently in Italy. On Monday, she shared a photo of a delicious looking desi breakfast she had in Florence – a pan full of fresh poha.

Except that Shabana called it upma as she shared the photo. Fellow Twitter users were quick to notice the error and they had the best comebacks. Taking a leaf out of Shabana’s book, they too shared photos describing the subject of the photo as something completely different from what it actually was.

Check out some of the best responses here.

The actor took the whole thing quite sportingly. In subsequent tweets Shabana said that she called poha upma by mistake and the results were quite entertaining.

A few months ago, writer Shobhaa De made a similar mistake after GST came into effect. She tweeted a photo of a bill from Murugan Idli Shop Nanganallur in Chennai, saying that because of GST’s “side-effects”, idlis had become unaffordable. Except that there were no idlis on the bill – it was ghee Pongal and coffee.

Twitter users were quick to point out her mistake, and even explain the break up of the bill and the tax.
