Once upon a time, when treadmills were for torture, people booked for jogging

It is quite normal to see people jogging in parks, on sidewalks and even on roads today. But can you imagine a time when you could be booked for "illegal use of the highway by a pedestrian" for taking your morning running route? Or a time when treadmills were used only in prisons?

Well, as absurd as it may seem, that time went on till the late 60s where it was just weird for people to take running as a fitness activity.
