Pavana, the widow of the Mangaluru DySP Ganapathi on Tuesday urged the police to file a suo motu case against legislators who blamed her for his death.  This comes a day after Karnataka Home Minister Parameshwara suggested Ganapathi had committed suicide following ill-treatment by his wife.  

Speaking to Suvarna TV, a Kannada news channel, Pavana said, "While we did have family issues and misunderstandings there was nothing so serious that would have led him to take such an extreme step. If he has given the statement hours before his suicide, why don't they cross check the allegation he has already made? I plan to approach the Karnataka state Human Rights Commission with regard to the minister's statement.”

The widow also noted, "I was told that a note and pendrive, which had his statements, have gone missing. How is that possible?"

Ganapathi had committed suicide on July 7. In an interview to a local news channel hours before his death, the Mangaluru DySP alleged harassment in the police department and at the behest of former home minister and current Bengaluru development minister K J George.

Speaking in Assembly on Monday, Home Minister Parameshwara quoted Ganapathy’s father Kushalappa’s complaint which said his son was suffering from depression and had family issues especially with his wife.  However, Kushlappa later denied blaming his daughter-in-law and stated the complaint had been prepared by the police, and he had not read the content.

Meanwhile, the investigation report by CID also points to family issues.
