Do you hold your pee often? Watch this video to find out what that does to your body

Written by : TNM Staff

It's early in the morning and you need to pee. Only you are too sleepy and decide to hold it in for another hour.

Sounds familiar? Holding your pee can be more common than you think. Sometimes we do it because we are busy or simply because it's not that urgent. During other times, we may not have much of choice, like when there's no restroom available nearby.

Humans should urinate around four to six times a day, but what happens when we hold our pee?

In the worst case, though rare, your bladder can burst and you may require surgery.

But as a habit, is it a harmful one? Does holding your pee, or forcing your urine out or urinating without proper support affect our body in the long term?

Watch this TED-Ed video to understand how our urine system works.
