Television channel Zindagi, owned by the Zee TV group, has run into trouble with the government after complaints were made against one of its shows for being “pro-Pakistan”.According to a report in The Times of India, complaints were made with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting against Zindagi channel for airing a Hindi serial which allegedly shows India in a bad light, while projecting Pakistan favourably.The Broadcast Content Complaints Council (BCCC), headed by Justice Mukul Mudgal, has issued a notice to Zindagi officials and have asked them to appear for a hearing on May 22.Quoting Ministry of Information and Broadcasting sources, TOI says the BCCC has asked the channel to respond, keeping the “sensitivity” of the matter in mind. Zee has claimed that they have not received a notice yet, according to the report.Pakistani serial titled “Dastan”, broadcast as “Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Sitam” in India, has reportedly been toned down for an Indian audience given the theme of the show.The historical serial is a love story based on author Razia Butt’s book Bano and is set around the time of Partition. Viewers have reportedly complained that the soap focuses on Pakistan’s side of the story and paints Indians as villains. But the show has also been widely appreciated by sections of the Indian audience for being a show that has broken out of Indian television’s staple of the saas-bahu tear-jerking melodramas.Sources within Zindagi have said that the show had been edited keeping Indian sentiments in mind and that they “have followed all broadcast guidelines”.Read more at: Notice to Zindagi channel on ‘pro-Pak’ serial
