UP woman denied admission, gives birth in govt hospital’s toilet

A 37-year old woman delivered her baby in a hospital's toilet after she was allegedly denied admission in the health centre in Thanabhawan town in Muzzafarnagar on Wednesday.

The incident took place when Fatima's husband brought her to the Primary Health centre after she complained of labour pain.

However, the doctors allegedly refused to admit the woman despite repeated requests and instead asked her to return in three days time on her expected delivery date.

Fatima, who had gone to relieve herself in the hospital toilet, gave birth to the baby there.

She was later shifted inside the hospital.

"Fatima was shifted to the health centre after she delivered her baby in the toilet. Both the mother and the baby are fine," said superintendent of the health centre Ramesh Chander.

"Inquiry has been ordered into the incident and we will take strict action against those responsible," he added.

This is the second occassion within a fortnight when a pregnant woman has been denied admission in a hospital in Shamli district.

On June 21, another pregnant woman was refused admission at a government health centre in Kandhla town.
