Why have protests broken out against Delhi BJP MLA OP Sharma?

Written by : TNM Staff

AAP workers protested against Delhi BJP MLA from Chandni Chowk's Viswas Nagar  constituency O P Sharma outside his residence on Tuesday.

The MLA in question has been suspended by the Delhi Assembly speaker for two days after his alleged derogatory and sexist comments against AAP MLA Alka Lamba.

Sharma had reportedly referred Lamba as, "a woman who roams in the night” during a discussion in the assembly regarding shelters for the homeless as BJP raised the issue about AAP's indifference over the death of poor people.

On Wednesday, Sharma refused to apologise and said "I won't apologise. There is nothing wrong in my statement and so I see no reason to apologize. I am a simple man and will not refrain while rebutting if someone tries to harm me,"

Reacting to the matter, "Delhi Police is not taking any action against BJP MLA OP Sharma. He called me a 'Bazaaru Aurat' who roams on roads during night," said Alka Lamba.

CM Arvind Kejriwal had earlier said in a tweet, “(I) am shocked at language used by O P Sharma, BJP MLA, against a lady MLA. 2 days back also, he abused a lady MLA. Hope BJP will act against him.”
