A Hindu majority is essential for maintaining ‘democracy ‘ and ‘secularism’, said BJP Leader Subramanian Swamy while speaking at the Virat Hindu Mahasabha .

“When there is a Hindu majority — democracy and secularism reign. Whenever Muslims are in majority — whether it’s the Kashmir ghati or Malappuram in Kerala – there is no democracy or secularism. Hindus are in danger in such places,” he said, reported Indian Express.

He mentioned three instances of temple-mosque disputes that the the BJP government needed to look into mentioning the Ram Janmabhoomi and Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath temple and Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi and Krishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Idgah mosque in Mathura, said the report.

He also questioned why mosques could not demolished mentioning how Saudi Arabia themeselves were doing it.

"Who says mosques can’t be demolished? In Saudi Arabia, they do it for the construction of roads or schools. We can do it here. Our government should give notice to those in Mathura and let them know that this is Krishna Janmabhoomi," he said.

VHP leader, Pravin Togadia, who also spoke at the event questioned what was wrong with ‘ghar wapsi’. He advocated no conversions saying that both Congress President Sonia Gandhi and SP head Mulayam Singh Yadav should ensure the passage of a bill in Parliament that prevented religious conversions.

“Let there be no conversions, but say yes to ‘ghar wapsi’,”he said at the event.

Togadia also criticised US President Barack Obama without mentioning his name. “We don’t need sermons from those who failed to prevent an attack on a Hindu temple in their country”
