Watch video: How one man created a Guinness record by holding his breath for 23 minutes

Written by : TNM Staff

While most people can only hold their breath for a minute or so before feeling the urge to breathe, Goran Colak has managed to hold his breath for an astonishing 23 minutes and create a Guinness world record in the process.

Yes, you heard that right. It is 23 minutes without breathing and what makes this feat even more remarkable is that he achieved this underwater.

The practice of holding the breath underwater for the longest possible time at a stationary position without swimming any distance is called static apnea.

Colak said, “Basically, I try to visualize a while wall with a black dot on it. So I don’t actively pursue any thoughts. I just stare at the blank wall. I just concentrate on counting my contractions. And that’s it. I try not to think about anything else. “

Colak inhaled pure oxygen for about 15 minutes to get his blood super-saturated to last the distance.
