Tried and convicted with punishment for dancing - this is what happened to seven young Iranians.

Seven young Iranians who danced to Pharrell Williams' hit song 'Happy' and uploaded the video on the internet have been given a harsh punishment from authorities.

The seven were arrested in May and released on bail after they apologized on television. They were then tried and convicted of many crimes including engaging illicit relationships.

"The three-year suspended sentence means that as long as they don’t commit a similar offense in that time period, they will not be subject to the punishments, a lawyer Farshid Rofugaran told the IranWire news site.

The girl who posted the video got 91 lashes and a year in prison. The rest of the group got six months and 91 lashes.

This is what Pharrell Williams had to say.
