Veteran actor Saeed Jaffrey dies at 86

Veteran actor Saeed Jaffrey, who appeared in movies like Shatranj Ke Khiladi and Gandhi, passed away on Sunday at the age of 86.

Jaffrey’s niece Shaheen Aggarwal broke the news on Facebook: “Today, a generation of Jaffreys has passed away. Saeed Jaffrey has joined his brothers and sister and is rejoicing in the lap of his Heavenly Father, eternally.”

Jaffrey won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for Satyajit Ray’s Shatranj Ke Khiladi and played a memorable character in Sai Paranjpe’s Chashme Baddoor.

Besides Bollywood, he also acted in several international films like Gandhi and A Passage to India as well as did TV shows like The Jewel in the Crown and Tandoori Nights.

He married Madhur Jaffrey with who he has three children. He later divorced her and married Jennifer Sorrell.
