The News Minute | March 25, 2015 | 3.01 pm ISTThe Times of India has apologized to Congress politician and Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor after it misquoted his remarks on his wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death earlier this week.On Monday The Times of India quoted Tharoor as saying that the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar was a suicide. A seemingly irritated Tharoor soon resorted to Twitter, accusing the national daily of “lying” by relying on “unnamed police sources”.. @deepusebastian @TOIIndiaNews has lied by attributing falsehoods 2unnamed police sources. This time they went too far by citing me falsely— Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) March 24, 2015Lying @TOIIndiaNews has repeatedly published falsehoods but thus is the last straw. Will take legal action. They are not journalists.— Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) March 24, 2015Shameless @TOIIndiaNews outdoes itself by attributing a view2me I've never held. I've never said suicide. Lies againhttp://t.co/Hq6nMooepC— Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) March 24, 2015Apparently chastised, The Times of India apologized for claiming that both Tharoor and Sunanda’s family were of the view that her death was a suicide and not murder. The apology on Tuesday clarified that Tharoor had merely said that Sunanda’s death was not a murder. The newspaper has published a note both in the original report and the corrected report on Tuesday, stating that the error had occurred due to Tharoor’s “open-ended” claim that Sunanda’s death was not a murder. The newspaper also apologizes to Tharoor, admitting that they did make a mistake. Tweet Follow @thenewsminute
