SpiceJet is in a bit of trouble, after a flight from Tirupati to Hyderabad on April 18 played the national anthem as the plane was landing, and passengers were strapped to their seats.

This has irked a passenger, who has reportedly filed a complaint with the airline.

Speaking to the Times of India, the passenger, Puneet Tiwari, a bank manager from Indore, said, "We were surprised when the national anthem was played and the passengers were forced to abide by the pilot's directions to keep the seat belt on.”

When contacted by TOI, a SpiceJet spokesperson said, "On this flight, inadvertently, our crew selected the wrong number on the playlist and the National Anthem started playing. Immediately, the same was stopped. We regret any inconvenience caused to our esteemed customers."

Puneet also took a video of the incident, which is doing the rounds on social media.

In November last year, the Supreme Court of India passed an order stating all cinema theatres to play the national anthem ahead of every screening of movies.

The apex court said that the national flag should be displayed on the screen during the time the national anthem is played.

The order said that every person present in the theatre must rise and pay respect to the national anthem.

Since then, there have been several instances of people abusing, assaulting and filing complaints against others - including a disabled man - for not standing up for the national anthem.
