Tiger Memon arrested in Pakistan, and then he was not

Written by : TNM

Reports about Tiger Memon, brother of 1993 Mumbai blast convict Yakub Memon, having been arrested in Pakistan was enough to create a flutter on social media on Wednesday.

However, it turned out that he was not the 'Tiger Memon' who is wanted by the Interpol and the CBI for his alleged role in the 1993 blasts.

It was later clarified that the arrested person was one Furqaan who used the alias Tiger Memon.

Furqaan reportedly used to blackmail and threaten women through fake Facebook accounts he had created in the name of Memon.

Many seemed to have believed the initial reports which set off another round of dicussion on Twitter.

On July 30 this year, Yakub Abdul Rezak Memon was hanged to death at the Nagpur Central jail, eight years after he was first found guilty of criminal conspiracy and abetment of a terrorist by a TADA court.

Tiger Memon, Yakub’s younger brother, is alleged to be the mastermind of the serial blasts that rocked Mumbai in 1993.
