The people in Tamil Nadu – including actors and media houses – have come together in a show of solidarity for neighbouring Kerala in the face of unprecedented floods in the state. Several have made donations in lakhs and crores of rupees to help out Kerala in its time of need.

On Friday, Sun TV, the Tamil satellite television channel based out of Chennai has donated Rs 1 crore to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. Over the past two days, actor Vijay Sethupathi has donated Rs 25 lakh, Dhanush donated Rs 15 lakh and Sivakarthikeyan donated Rs 10 lakh. Actor Rohini, too, is said to have donated Rs 2 lakh to the cause.

Actor Vishal stated on his Twitter that he too donated an undisclosed sum toward the relief efforts.

Just a day earlier, actor Sidharth started the #KeralaDonationChallenge, urged people to contribute whatever they can to the people affected by the floods in Kerala.

Earlier, Vijay TV and the channel’s Bigg Boss host Kamal Haasan contributed Rs 25 lakh each to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Actors Suriya and Karthi have also donated Rs 25 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.

Apart from Tamil stars, Malayalam actors Mohanlal, Mammootty, Dulquer Salman and Telugu actors Allu Arjun and Vijay Deverakonda have also donated to the flood rescue efforts. Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) donated Rs 10 crore.

Rains in Kerala has killed at least 164 people over the past 10 days in the state and caused loss of property worth crores. Thousands across the state are still stranded with rescue operations in full swing. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Idukki, Wayanad and Malappuram districts are the most affected areas in the state with most rivers in spate.
