Sri Sri event: AoL pays pending compensation amount to NGT

Written by : TNM Staff

The Art of Living (AoL) has finally submitted the last installment of Rs. 4.75 crore to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for damage to the Yamuna floodplains during the World Culture Festival held in March.

The compensation amount was given to the Delhi Development Authority via demand draft on June 3.

On March 9, the NGT had stopped short of banning the World Cultural Festival on the Yamuna bank, but ordered a penalty of Rs. 5 crore on Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s foundation for damaging biodiversity.

The NGT had on May 31 junked the AoL’s plea seeking its nod to accept the environmental compensation as bank guarantee instead of "payment of balance amount" of Rs 4.75 crore.

The green panel also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's AOL for filing such application which "lacks bona fide" intent and directed it to pay the remainder amount in one week.
