In the wake of sporadic violence against Kannada people and establishments in Tamil Nadu over the Cauvery dispute, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on Monday wrote to Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa.

In his letter addressed to Jayalalithaa, he said that the news of a Tamil youth being attacked in Bengaluru had been blown out of proportion by media channels in Tamil Nadu and this was likely inciting passions against Kannada-speakers.

He said that the Karnataka government is committed to maintaining law and order in the State and has taken precautions to protect Tamil speakers in the State.

He urged the TN CM to direct authorities in Tamil Nadu to ensure that perpetrators of violence there are brought to book, and adequate safety provided to Kannada speakers in the state.

The Chief Minister also tweeted, “TN DGP assured 2 take action against those who attacked Kannadigas.Hav ordered our DGP &BLR Police Commissner to ensure safety of Tamilians.”
