History came full circle for Bollywood actor Shashi Kapoor on Sunday when he was conferred India’s most prestigious cinema award in a place that he built in memory of his father.Draped in an orange shawl, legendary actor Shashi Kapoor greeted everyone with a charming smile and namaste as he was conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Palke Award at Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai.Although the award is usually presented along with the National Film Awards, Kapoor could not attend the ceremony in New Delhi as he was unwell. A special ceremony was organised for him and the venue chosen as he had built it as a tribute to his father Prithviraj Kapoor, who had founded Prithvi Theatre, a travelling theatre company, in 1944. Incidentally, early Indian cinema as a whole, had strong connections with theatre.The award was presented to Shashi Kapoor by Union Minister Arun Jaitley in the presence of industry stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Waheeda Rehman, Zeenat Aman along with the entire Kapoor clan.Shashi Kapoor is the third member of the extended Kapoor family to have received this award. His father Prithviraj Kapoor was the sole posthumous recipient of the award in 1971 while his elder brother, Raj Kapoor was honoured by the Government of India in 1987.He has acted in over 175 films starting his career as a child artist in the late 1940s. He was last seen in the English movie "Jinnah" (1998) a biographical film on the life of Pakistan’s founder Muhammed Ali Jinnah.And his heroines!
