Schools and colleges in J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan shut amid India-Pakistan tensions

Educational institutions in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and border districts of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh have been shut as tensions rise between India and Pakistan.

Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, schools and colleges in Punjab, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh will remain closed for a few days.  

All schools and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed on Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10, according to PTI. 

“All Schools, Colleges and  educational institutions (private as well as Government) in the Jammu province except the Medical colleges shall remain closed tomorrow on 9th May in view of the prevailing situation,” Division Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir wrote on X.

The Punjab government has ordered closure of all educational institutes and cancelled exams. 

The Punjab’s State Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that in view of the evolving situation, "it is hereby ordered that all schools, colleges, and universities - government, private, and aided - across the entire Punjab would remain completely closed for the next three days."

IK Gujral Punjab Technical University in Jalandhar on Friday, May 9, said that with the approval of the competent authority, the end semester examinations have been postponed until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances. The revised schedule for the examinations will be announced at least five days prior to the new date of commencement, it said. 

In Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, authorities declared closure of all schools till Saturday, May 9. 

In Rajasthan, government and private schools in Sri Ganganagar, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Barmer districts will remain closed. 

Similarly, all government and private institutes in the Una district of Himachal Pradesh will remain closed on Friday, May 9.
