The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the Kerala High Court’s order allowing four private medical colleges from conducting the admissions process in four private medical colleges in the state. Al Azhar college in Thodupuzha, DM Medical College in Wayanad, PK Das Medical College in Palakkad and SR Medical College in Thiruvalla are the four colleges whose admission processes have been stayed by a bench led by Justice Arun Mishra.

It has been reported that there were a total of 550 seats in all the four colleges and that admissions for most of these seats were completed during the Mop up counselling sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday. The decision by the top court will affect all the students who secured admissions into these colleges. This as the top court has directed the four colleges to cancel admissions of those who have secured admission so far.

The Medical Council of India had initially denied permission to these four medical colleges pointing to the poor facilities in the campuses. Following this, the four colleges had approached the Kerala High Court on August 30, which went on to give them permission to conduct the admission process.

The Medical Council of India then approached the Supreme Court on Tuesday against the admission processes conducted by the colleges, requesting the apex court to urgently consider the petition filed by them denying permission to these medical colleges to conduct admission processes.
