The police in Saudi Arabia Saturday arrested 33 people with reported links to a terror attack that killed five people earlier this week, a media report said.

The suspects have terrorism-related criminal records and were plotting another such attack targeting security, government sites and public figures, Xinhua reported citing Al Arabiya news channel.

A shooting occurred Nov 4 in Dalwah town of Al-Ahsa governorate, one of the main centres of the minority Shia Muslims in Sunni-ruled Saudi Arabia, where the Shias were gathered at a ceremony to mark their Ashura, the holy day commemorating the death of Imam Hussein, a grandson of Prophet Mohammad and revered by the Shias.

The shooting resulted in the deaths of five people while nine were wounded. It was aimed at creating chaos in different areas of Saudi Arabia, police said.
