A US federal judge has reportedly stayed a part of US President Donald Trump’s executive order issuing a blanket ban on immigration of Muslims into the US, on Saturday evening. NYT reports that the judge ordered that refugees and others trapped at airports in the US should not be sent back to their home countries. However, the judge did not order letting them into the country.

The order was issued at an emergency hearing in a New York City court. Judge Ann Donnelly of Federal District Court in Brooklyn ruled that Trump’s order, which sought to send travelers back home, could cause them “irreparable harm.”

Several people gathered outside the court chanting ‘Set them free!’ and erupted in joy when the court issued the stay.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people gathered outside the John F Kennedy Airport in New York to protest against the Presidential executive order. Peaceful demonstrations began on Saturday after about a dozen travelers had been detained at the airport. NYT reports.

At the Logan Airport in Boston, US Senator Elizabeth Warren joined the protesters, reports ABC.  Protesters were also seen in airports at Dallas, Minneapolis, Los Angeles and the O’Hare airport in Chicago.
