PM Modi appears struck by his own stardom

Written by : TNM Staff

A day after the Indian government’s move to curb the influx of black money, it looks like Prime Minister Narendra Modi is star-struck.

On Tuesday night, Modi announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes will no longer be legal tender. The move is aimed at curbing the influx of black money and counterfeit currency, he said.

As the urgent relay of the news settled, praise began to pour in for the move. Prominent actors, directors, sportsperson and singers of India have congratulated Modi through Twitter for the step.

The Prime Minister has either retweeted, or quoted practically each one of them, sometimes ending up being unintentionally funny. Of 16 of the people who had congratulated him at the time of writing, 14 were film personalities and the other two were self-styled gurus.
