The Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur has been ranked as the best hotel in the world by travel website TripAdvisor.

Part of the palace is now run by the Taj Group of Hotels and has been ranked first in TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Top 25 Hotels — World, CNN reported.

The Taj Hotels website states, "Perched high above the desert capital of Jodhpur, Umaid Bhawan Palace is the last of the great palaces of India and one of the largest private residences in the world - set amidst 26 acres of lush gardens.

Named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, grandfather of the present Maharaja of Jodhpur, this golden - yellow sandstone monument was conceived on the grandest possible scale, in the fashionable Art Deco Style of that time. After 15 years in construction, the 347 - room palace was finally completed in 1943 - and has served as the principal residence of the Jodhpur royal family since."

The Traveller's Choice list is prepared over a period of one year and is based on millions of collated opinions and reviews, adds the report.

A report in NDTV Profit states, "64 rooms and suites out of Umaid Bhawan Palace's 347 rooms, are managed by Taj Hotels, and are open to tourists. A normal room at the Umaid Bhawan Palace starts at an average of around Rs 50,000 per night for a couple, according to quotes from travel sites. The Palace also houses a museum."

Orange County Resorts in Kabini, Karnataka, is the only other Indian hotel in TripAdivors 25-best hotels list. It has been ranked 13th.

Some of the other hotels that have made it to the list are Shinta Mani Resort (Siem Reap, Cambodia), Bellevue Syrene (Sorrento, Italy), Hanoi La Siesta Hotel & Spa (Hanoi, Vietnam) and Achtis Hotel (Afitos, Greece).
