The News Minute | March 11, 2015 | 12.45 PM ISTA Kerala journalist has filed a petition to the Bar Council of India (BCI), demanding action against the defence lawyers of the Delhi gang rape accused for their controversial statements in the documentary “India’s Daughter”.Raghul Sudheesh, who is also an advocate, has submitted the petition to the chairman of the BCI, Manan Kumar Mishra, requesting to take disciplinary action against the advocates M.L. Sharma and A.P. Singh, who represented Mukesh Singh, the December 16 gang rape accused who was featured in the BBC film. He has also started an online campaign on Change.org, which has received around 80,000 signatures as of now. This has been attached along with the petition that has been sent to the BCI.The petition states: “The statements made by these lawyers are totally unacceptable and has brought disgrace to the entire lawyer fraternity. These insensitive statements, probably aimed at publicity, has not only insulted the victim of the Delhi gang rape but also portrayed her as a lady with questionable credentials.” It also demands the suspension of the advocates in question, an unconditional apology from the two, and also amending the BCI rules so that lawyers do not make such derogatory remarks when they represent persons in sensitive cases involving crimes against women. “An action against the two lawyers will set an example and prevent others from making similar comments,” Raghul Sudheesh told The News Minute.Read - Were you angry listening to the lawyers on India's Daughter?
