Patiala House court turns into battle zone as group of lawyers attack JNU students and faculty

Written by : TNM Staff

A group of lawyers attacked students and teachers of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Monday at the Patiala House court premises after raising anti-JNU slogans demanding the exit of University faculty present inside the court.

This happened just before JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar was due to be presented before the court after he was arrested and charged with sedition by the Delhi Police for allegedly raising anti-India slogans.

The group of lawyers, chanting ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ and ‘Vande mataram’ even attacked the media present at the court premises.

The opposition parties including Congress, AAP and the Left have condemned the arrest and termed the sedition charge excessive.

Students have refused to attend classes in protest while several teachers have also joined the strike.
