For more than a week now Bangalore has been up in arms against crimes committed against children and women. The city has seen many protests, with anguished parents demanding better security at schools, following the rape of a six year old.

The case has become so high profile that even Bangalore's police commissioner has been transferred by a government in damage control.

Two years ago, parents of a nine-year-old girl approached the police as their little girl was sexually assaulted by an electrician working in an upmarket school she was studying in. The case was unknown to media, there had been no public rallying. The case is still in trial court.

The accused in the case was arrested and out on bail.

The Karnataka state government has promised that special courts will hear cases pertaining to children, but with such courts not being set up, regular courts are hearing these cases.
