As the threat of strikes by the Islamic State (ISIS) looms large over Europe, Norway has become the latest country to say its citizens who join the jihad will be stripped of their passports.

According to the Mail Online, the Norwegian move comes fast on the heels of announcements from the UK that its citizens joining the jihad will find themselves without passports and a nationality. The onus of proving that British citizens travelling to Syria and Iraq are not terrorists now rests with them, the UK government has said.

Matters have come to this after the beheading of the American journalist by a member of the ISIS who has been identified as a rapper from the UK. Over the past few weeks, countries across the European continent have been meeting to explore ways to deal with their nationals who have voluntarily travelled to Syria to join the jihad. Last week 50 Italians were recruited online.
