NGOs in India received a whopping Rs 11,070 crore in foreign funds between 2013-14, states a report by The New Indian Express. 

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the US topped the list of donors by contributing over Rs 4,491 crore, followed by the UK which contributed Rs 1,347 crore. 

On the basis of returns filed, NGO's in Delhi received over Rs 2,828 crore, followed by Rs 1,751 crore received by NGOs in Tamil Nadu. NGOs in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra received Rs 1,337 crore, Rs 1,322 crore and Rs 1,292 crore respectively, states the report. 

But, the government data does not specify donors and receivers. 

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju told the Lok Sabha that “As on February 18, 2015, 43,050 organisations had registered themselves under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act(FCRA)". 

He also informed that complaints had been received from government agencies and the public in connection to misuse of foreign contributions by NGOs. 24 such cases have been referred to the CBI and 10 cases to the state police, adds the report.
