New Year’s Eve: California sees rare occurrence as twins born but not in the same year

Written by : TNM Staff

In a rather unusual occurrence, twins born on New Years Eve in California, USA have birthdays in separate years because they were born just two minutes apart.

Luis Valencia Jr. was born at 12:01 am on January 1, 2016 while his sister Jaelyn Valenica was born just two minutes earlier at 11:59 pm on December 31, 2015, according to a report by a local ABC station.

The station reported that the twins were originally due at the end of January but the mother had to be rushed to hospital because one of them was in breech position.

“I was not really expecting two, so it’s a big blessing to have two of them, boy and a girl for New Years,” said Luis Valencia, the father.
