PM Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency of Varanasi finds mention in the list, according to a report in the Hindustan Times.

The full list is as follows: Agra, Ajmer, Amritsar, Aurangabad, Gwalior, Hubbali-Dharwad, Jalandhar, Kalyan-Dombivali, Kanpur, Kohima, Kota, Madurai, Mangaluru, Nagpur, Namchi, Nashik, Rourkela, Salem, Shivamogga, Thane, Thanjavur, Tirupati, Tumakuru, Ujjain, Vadodara, Vellore and Varanasi.

An investment of nearly Rs 67,000 crore will be needed for the 27 cities.

A total of 100 smart cities are envisioned by 2022. Sixty have already been selected while the remaining will be chosen by 2018.

Each city is to get Rs 100 crore per year from the Centre’s overall allocation of Rs 48,000 crore for five years for the programme.

With continuous power and water supply, internet connectivity, e-governance and quality infrastructure, smart cities are meant to revolutionise the way urban India lives.
