Written by : TNM

A neighbourhood quibble over “fish water” and eggs went out of hand in Mumbai as police filed FIRs against six people, five of whom were women, and arrested them on Saturday.A report in DNA mentions that the arrests came after a disagreement between the family of a Marathi film producer and residents of his society. On Friday night someone from 48-year-old Govind Chavan’s family allegedly threw out “fish water” from their window onto a society event going on late at night.Chavan claims that a mob of close to fifty people forced their way into his home and allegedly abused his wife and daughter. He also claimed that the crowd threw eggs into his house. The residents told the newspaper a different story however. “There was a function going on in the building and the fish water was thrown twice from their house,” said a resident to the newspaper. “The first time around, we all ignored it but when it happened the second time, the members got upset and went to enquire with the Chavan family. When all of us went to ask about the fish water, Chavan's family threw egg on us,” they added. The community where the Chavan’s live is reportedly made up of a large portion of Gujaratis and Marwaris, both of whom shun meat.
