Man dies after he was declared ‘dead’ two days in advance

In a tragic turn of events, Prashant, the 50-year-old homeless man died succumbing to his ailments on Tuesday night at a hospital in Mumbai.

The story of this man went viral after reports claimed that he was declared ‘dead’ by one of the doctors in Tilak Municipal General Hospital of the city on Sunday.

It was only in the post-mortem table that Prashant showed signs of life and was undergoing treatment.

Reportedly, the man was found to be in a state of delusion was being treated of metabolic disorders and effects of alcoholism and substance abuse.

"He was treated for having maggots in his right ear and was unconscious. We treated him for electrolyte imbalance and transfused blood because he was anaemic," added Dr Suleman Merchant, the dean of the hospital.

It is customary a patient is kept in the ward for two hours after being declared death. Speaking on this Dr Merchant told the media, an inquiry was set by the hospital administration.
