Written by : TNM

Two members of the Mumbai Police got into a heated argument on Saturday culminating in a shooting, the aftermath of which has claimed both officers.  According to The Indian Express Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Dilip Shirke shot Senior Inspector Vilas Joshi and killed himself inside the Vakola Police Station while the latter succumbed to his injuries on Sunday at the Lilavati hospital in Mumbai.  Joshi was shot thrice by ASI Shirke after they had a heated argument over an entry in a register regarding the latter’s absence from duty. Amidst the chaos Shirke also shot Joshi’s wireless operator, Balasaheb Aher, in his thigh. Aher is reportedly out of danger.  DCP (Zone X) Vinayak Deshmukh told The Indian Express that Shirke had an argument with Joshi because the night inspector had marked Shirke absent twice in the station diary after his night patrol hadn’t found him at his deputed spot between 2.30 am and 6.30 am. Rakesh Maria, Mumbai Police Commissioner said that Shirke was apparently furious and claimed harassment by his senior officials. “During the day, Shirke also told a few of his colleagues how he was being harassed by his superiors,” said a police officer from Vakola police station, to DNA. KMM Prasanna, Additional Commissioner of Police told DNA that the investigation of the case had been handed over to the Crime Branch.
