Mercury rising: Here are 15 places in south India that hit 40°C and higher

Written by : Soumya Chatterjee

As the Met department issued heat wave warnings for Wednesday and Thursday for Telangana and Odisha, Hyderabad recorded its highest temperature for April (in 43 years) on Wednesday.

So far 35 people have died due to heat waves this summer in Telangana alone as of Wednesday.

It was even worse in some parts of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh where the temperature rose close to 50°C.

Karnataka and Tamil Nadu also witnessed temperatures above 40°C.

As many parts of India battle drought or drought-like conditions for the second successive year, ordinary citizens are facing the brunt.

However, there might be some relief later as the IMD on Tuesday forecasted an above average monsoon this year.

It was earlier reported how temperatures have touched record highs this season across the five southern states in March.
