Mehsana district in Gujarat has issued strict dress codes for teachers where saris have been made mandatory for teachers in primary school, states an India Today report.
The Mehsana district education committee has issued an official notice asking all women teachers to wear sarees, barring even salwar kammez. Wearing denim trousers is strictly prohibited. However, there is no such code for male teachers, adds the report.
A state-level committee appointed by Gujarat Chief Minister Patel has also made several suggestions regarding dress codes for teachers in primary schools, though no final decision has been made yet.
