'May the Fourth be with you!' – India celebrates Star Wars Day

The practice of celebrating George Lucas's Star Wars series annually on 4th May spread globally since fans did it for the first time in 2011. The date was conceived due to a pun on the catch-phrase “May the force be with you!” - “May the Fourth be with you!” Indian fans are paying a tribute to their favorite sci-fi movie series. 

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the seventh installment in the series, was released on 18th December 2015, a decade after Revenge of the Sith, much to the excitement of the Star Wars fan-base around the world. It has also scooped up a newer generation of fans.

Young Aniketh Aithal told Deccan Herald, “Our dad has bought all the movies for us, so we watch whenever we want to. Both of us like to dress up like the characters in the movies. We’ve even seen the latest movie ‘The Force Awakens’ 6 times in the theatre.”

In memory of their favorite movie-series, The Indian Jam Project's Star Wars Tribute is riding the internet wave, and social media is abuzz with greetings, wishes and a revival of old Star Wars Memes.
