Senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Union Minister Uma Bharati were granted bail by a Lucknow court on Tuesday in the Babri Masjid demolition case. They were granted bail on personal bonds of Rs 50,000 each, reports said.

However, according to television reports the court is likely to frame charges against the three top leaders and nine other accused in the case on Tuesday evening.

The other accused who appeared before the court were Sadhwi Ritambhara, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Vinay Katiyar, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Vishnu Hari Dalmia, Mahant Ram Vilas Vedanti, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, Baikunth Lal Sharma, Dharm Das, Champat Rai Bansal and Shiv Sena's Satish Pradhan.

The three top BJP leaders appeared before the special CBI court for the first time on Tuesday, after the court had stated last week that no adjournments or exemptions from personal appearance would be allowed.

BJP representatives, however, remained confident on Tuesday that conspiracy charges against the accused will not hold.

Earlier in the day, Bharti told mediapersons outside the courthouse, “I do not consider myself as a criminal.”

"They (BJP leaders) are innocent. They will come out clean. The opposition always has some falsehood to say. I am sure the conspiracy will not stand," Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu told reporters.

The special court is conducting daily hearings in the case following orders from the Supreme Court to wrap up the matter within two years. In April, the apex court had revived criminal conspiracy charges against the top leaders, based on a CBI petition opposing CBI Court and Allahabad High Court verdicts in 2001 and 2010 ordering that these charges be dropped.

The apex court had also shifted the case against these leaders from a Rae Bareli court and clubbed it with another case relating to the actual demolition of the historic mosque.
