Arguably the greatest batsman ever to play the game of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar shared a lesson of humility while speaking at an event on Tuesday.  

Tendulkar who understandably is also an idol for many current and budding cricketers across the world revealed how he once listened to the advice of a waiter at Chennai’s Taj Coromandel to improve his bat swing.

The waiter had suggested how his elbow guard used to restrict his bat swing.

“If you have an open mind, you can develop so many things. In Chennai, it was a waiter who came up to me and said ‘if you don’t mind and don’t get offended I want to tell you something.’ I said ‘go ahead.’ He said my elbow guard restricts my bat swing. And he was 100 per cent right,” said the man who has the record of scoring a 100 centuries in international cricket.

The man with the most number of runs humbly listened to the waiter’s advice and modified his gear.

Tendulkar emphasised that although in this country, advice is often easily available from all and sundry, one should always be willing to listen.

"I instantly redesigned my elbow guard. I needed to re-open it and work on it. Get the fibre and cushion on either side to absorb the impact. In our country, everyone from panwala to CEOs will give you advice. But one should still be open about ideas," added Tendulkar.

One of the reporters who was present at the event told The News Minute that Sachin said that it was many year ago that hotel staff had come to deliver food to his room.
